Essex Women’s Track Shines at METS Championships with National Qualifier and Personal Bests
The Essex County College women's outdoor track and field team delivered an impressive showing this past Friday, April 3rd, at the METS Outdoor Championships, held at the renowned Icahn Stadium. Competing against a strong field that included NCAA Division I programs. The Wolverines rose to the occasion with standout performances and multiple personal records.
The day began with a thrilling performance in the women's 100-meter hurdles, where Kadina Deeble narrowly missed first place in a dramatic finish. Deeble clocked a 14.46 in the preliminaries, earning a national qualifying mark and advancing to the finals. In the championship race, she improved her time to 14.09, finishing second overall. In a photo finish, just .004 seconds separated Deeble from her Fairleigh Dickinson University (Division I) competitor, highlighting the elite level of competition.
Deeble continued her strong day on the track in the 100-meter dash, placing 15th overall with a personal-best time of 12.94. She also recorded another personal best in the 200-meter dash, finishing 16th in 26.63.
Aaliyaha Morgan added to the Wolverines' success with a strong performance in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth out of 39 competitors with a time of 25.59. Morgan also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing seventh in 1:00.24 to round out a productive day.
The Wolverines look to build on this momentum as they prepare for upcoming competition. The Wolverines return to action at Rowan University tomorrow, Saturday, April 11th.
