Newark , NJ | CCBC Essex edged out Essex CC in a close match thanks to a strong attacking performance and solid goalkeeping.
Although, the Wolverines found themselves with the edge in shots, CCBC Essex was able to convert one more to secure the win Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines tallied 21 shots with 10 on goal. CCBC Essex had 17 shots, also with 10 on goal. Brihana Staple was able to make 7 saves on those 10 shots.
Martine Joazard was a major threat for the Wolverines as she had 9 shots with 5 on goal while converting 1 opportunity. Ilana Lashley also delivered scoring the second goal of the game and of the season.
CCBC Essex found themselves in the lead early off an own goal from Essex. However, Essex CC was able to collect themselves and 15 seconds later, Joazard found the back of the net. CCBC Essex was able to add one more before half time giving them an one goal advantage. That didn't stop the attack for the Wolverines, they were able to create chance after chance but were unable to convert to secure the win.
The women return to action Wednesday afternoon at home when they take on RCSJ - Cumberland in a GSAC Cup matchup.
