Wolverines Women's Basketball Opens Season with Win at Westchester Community College

Newark, NJ | The Essex County College women's basketball team opened its 2025–2026 season with a 68–58 road victory over Westchester Community College on Wednesday night, using balanced scoring and strong defensive stretches to secure the win.

Freshman guard Gabriella Brown led the Wolverines with 18 points, attacking consistently off the dribble and converting key free throws down the stretch. Sophomore guard Aniya Brown added 14 points, while freshman forward Essence Cushionberry contributed 13 points, giving Essex a well-rounded offensive effort.

ECC established control early in the first half and maintained a steady lead, answering each Westchester run with timely baskets and solid defensive stops. The Wolverines' ability to score in transition and finish through contact helped them maintain separation in the final quarter.

With the win, Essex County College (1–0) starts the season on a high note and will look to continue its momentum in the home opener against Chesapeake College on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cleo Hill Gymnasium.
