Iddrisu Musah Sets School Record in 100m After Late Entry at NJCAA Championships
Hobbs, N.M. — Essex County College men's track & field athlete Iddrisu Musah delivered a breakthrough performance at the 2026 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, highlighted by a school-record run in the men's 100-meter dash preliminary round on Friday, May 15.
Musah clocked a personal best and school-record time of 10.29 seconds in the 100-meter prelims, lowering his previous lifetime best of 10.61 seconds while competing on the national stage against elite junior college sprinters. The performance came in a highly competitive field where it ultimately took 10.15 seconds to advance to the final round.
Musah's opportunity in the event came after Essex County College head coach Bruce Berry utilized a white-card entry to insert him into the 100-meter dash field, a decision that ultimately paid off with a record-setting performance on the sport's biggest stage. He also contested the 200-meter dash prelims during championship action, but was unfortunately listed as DNF due to a lane violation, ending his participation in the event. Despite the setback in the 200 meters, Musah's 100m performance marked a major milestone for the Essex County College sprint program, establishing a new school record and showcasing his continued development among the nation's top junior college sprinters.
Essex County College continued its presence at the 2026 NJCAA Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico, with athletes competing across multiple events throughout the championship weekend.
