Iddrisu Musah Set for NJCAA 200m Prelims in Hobbs

HOBBS, N.M. — The 2026 NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Track & Field Championships open this week on Day 2 of competition at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico, bringing the nation's top junior college athletes together for three days of national title competition in the high desert.

Among the qualifiers lining up in the sprint lanes is Essex County College freshman Iddrisu Musah, who enters the championship meet ready to contest the men's 200-meter dash preliminaries against a deep national field.

Musah arrives in Hobbs off a breakthrough outdoor season that has positioned him among the NJCAA Division I qualifying group in the event. The freshman clocked a season-best 21.02 seconds in the 200m during the outdoor campaign, a mark that secured his qualification and placed him firmly inside the national championship field. He has consistently competed in the low-21-second range throughout the spring, showing steady progression in one of the meet's most competitive sprint events.

Earlier in the year, Musah also posted a 21.67 indoor 200m performance, an early indicator of his sprint capability before transitioning into outdoor form where he continued to lower his times and strengthen his championship profile.

The NJCAA Division I schedule places the 200m preliminaries in the sprint qualifying rounds, where athletes must advance through heats to earn a lane in the final later in the meet. Over the championship window, performances will determine All-American honors and national podium placements.

For Essex County College, Musah's appearance in the prelims marks another step forward for a freshman who has quickly developed into a national-level sprint presence in his debut season.
