Newark, NJ | The Essex County College men's and women's track and field teams returned to action Thursday, April 24th through Saturday, April 26th, competing in 129th Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The Wolverines showcased their skill and hard work racing in 8 championship heats. These included the Men's 4x100 relay, the Men's Sprint Medley Relay, the Men's 4x400 relay, the Men's 400m hurdles, the Men's Javelin, the Women's 4x100 relay, the Women's 4x200 relay, and the Women's 4x400 relay.

The three day meet kicked off Thursday night with Mehdi Guerrah traveling down to compete in the 400m Hurdles. Mehdi Guerrah secured his spot in the race with 34 other athletes.

Friday, was a long day for the Wolverines but they shined bright in each of their heats. The Men's 4x100 relay, which consists of Raziel O'MeallySanjay WeeksChazz Alexander, and Mehdi Guerrah finished 7th running a 42.31 to advance to the finals Saturday afternoon. The Women's 4x100 relay, which consists of Kadina Deeble, Ashia Martin, Ma-Avian Williams, and Kimberly Baker finished 3rd overall, running a 48.05 to also advance to the finals Saturday afternoon. Both our 4x400 relays competed, showing their dedication and hard work on the track. Kadina Deeble was one of 29 athletes to participate in the 100m Hurdles, showcasing how she has already qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor Nationals.

To round out the meet, the Wolverines took the track one last time Saturday. Although not the best conditions with a rainy forecast, they still shine bright and competed in the finals. The Women's 4x100 relay was in an elite group where they went back and forth, exchanging the lead before unfortunately, the rainy conditions played a factor, making them drop the baton going into the final straightaway. However, their counterparts where able to battle through the cold and rainy conditions to run a 42.69 to finish 4th overall.

It was a great weekend to be a Wolverine. The teams will be traveling next to Princeton to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational to fine tune something before they are off the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship!
