Penic Powers Wolverines Past Monroe in 4-1 Statement Win

Bronx, NY - The Essex County College Wolverines men's soccer team delivered a statement performance on Tuesday afternoon, earning a commanding 4-1 victory over Monroe College Bronx . The win marks Essex's second straight triumph over Monroe, following their 6-1 rout back in 2018.

Star forward Kristijan Penic led the Wolverines with two goals and an assist, putting on a clinical display of finishing and playmaking. Penic opened the scoring in the 39th minute, slotting home a composed finish off a smooth assist from Mateo Angosto. Just minutes later, Penic turned provider, assisting Marques McDonald, who took advantage of an out-of-position Monroe goalkeeper to double the lead before halftime.

The Wolverines continued their attacking dominance in the second half. Penic struck again in the 68th minute, this time finishing off a setup from Jairo Morocho to make it 3-0. Then, in the 71st minute, Mateo Merced capitalized on a quick play and a downed Monroe keeper to put Essex up 4-0.

Essex was relentless on offense, firing 27 total shots with 12 on target, while the defense held strong with 5 key saves to control the game from start to finish.

The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday, October 11th as they travel to Philadelphia to face Harcum College at 8:00pm.
