Wolverine Men Open Outdoor Season with Strong Finishes and Personal Bests at Ramapo Invitational

Mahwah, NJ -The Essex County College men's track & field team opened its outdoor season this past weekend at the Ramapo College Two-Day Invitational, overcoming cold conditions to deliver a series of strong performances and personal-best efforts.

Leading the way for the Wolverines was Sanjay Weekes, who turned in a standout performance in the 400 meters. Weekes placed third overall out of 76 competitors with a personal-best time of 49.65. Teammate Iddrish Musah followed closely behind, finishing fourth in 50.06, giving Essex two of the top finishers in a highly competitive field.

The momentum carried into the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Weekes, Musah, Abdul Rahaman, and Gideon Griffin secured a third-place finish with a time of 3:21.44. The Wolverines also fielded a second relay squad that placed 13th.

In the distance events, Matthew Grano delivered an impressive double performance. Grano recorded a personal best of 4:07.24 to finish fifth in the 1500 meters and followed that with another personal best in the 5000 meters, placing seventh in 15:48.83. Alejandro Arreaga also contributed with personal-best performances in both events.

Additional contributions came in the 800 meters, where Abdul Rahaman (2:04.18) and Oyodele Ayatunde (2:07.79) led the group, along with Gideon Griffin. The 400-meter group also saw efforts from Raziel O'Mealely, Brandon Williams, and Jamali Campbell.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the Wolverines produced multiple personal records and top finishes, signaling a strong start to the outdoor campaign.

Essex will return to action at the METS Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York.
